HISTORY OF MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage therapy has been used for thousands of years as a means of preserving wellness and beauty. Writings on the use of massage have been discovered in many ancient civilizations including Rome, Greece, India, the Middle East and the orient. Over the centuries, the practice has evolved to include specific techniques and technical tools, but the purpose remains the same – to invoke deep relaxation and restore a sense of balance between the body and mind. Chiropractic and conventional medical professionals often incorporate the healing faculties of massage as part of the rehabilitation regimen for people suffering from a host of various illnesses and injuries.

Each essential oil has very specific properties and qualities found to interact with body chemistry to produce a particular effect. Some are used to ease tension and calm the senses. Others are used for their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal effects. Lori Matz, CMT at North Country Massage & Bodyworks, is a specialist who will determine which essential oil or combination of oils best suits your needs.

These specialty oils should not be confused with synthetic perfume oils that may share their fragrances. Essential oils have a  unique chemical composition that science has so far been unable to duplicate.
MASSAGE MODALITIES

Deep Tissue Massage
This method of therapy incorporates compression, friction, jostling and elongation that focus on deep layers of muscle, relaxing them and improving tone and condition.

Swedish Massage
Through long strokes, kneading and friction, the muscles and joints are manipulated to improve flexibility. This modality also increases circulation, reduces tension and induces relaxation.

Trigger Point Massage
This technique is known as pressure point massage because the therapist applies deep, focused pressure on painful, restricting knots in the muscles.

Integrated Massage
This full body treatment is given to relax the client, but also to focus on specific problem areas. A combination of all above massage techniques is used to achieve the desired results.

Pre and Post Natal Massage
This gentle, caring massage benefits both mother and baby. The therapy combines long flowing strokes with Swedish massage techniques to reduce stress, relax the body and improve circulation.

Medical Massage
Treatment is focused on the areas of concern to rehabilitate injuries and trauma sites with soft tissue manipulation and reeducation therapy.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential oils are the concentrated essences of select botanical materials. Their molecular structure allows them to be quickly absorbed by the skin, into the bloodstream and to the organs for which their therapeutic qualities are intended. Their healing effects are best realized when massaged into the skin to relax, refresh and rejuvenate.
